Editorial review

If that's not your first experience with Windows Movie Maker, this new version doesn't have many new features to offer. For those who have never used this video editor before, it would become a revelation. You would be surprised how many awesome things you can create using a basic editor for free!

Overview

The program allows you to create media presentations using all sorts of media files. You can create image presentations, edit videos, add soundtracks and subs, and apply multiple effects. Customization options are really great and allow you to create good looking projects from scratch.

The interface didn't change and remains really handy and intuitive. All you need to do is upload the desired media files and drag and drop them in the timeline. The videos are automatically divided into sections for easier editing. After that, you can crop it, change the order of pieces in the timeline, play with the sound settings, and apply multiple effects. The range of effects is really impressive although still pretty basic.

On the completion, you can save your presentations on your computer or save them as projects and go back to them whenever you want to edit them.

What's new in 2012 version?

As we've already mentioned before, there are not too many changes in Windows Movie Maker 2012 as compared to the previous versions. The most noticeable changes were made in terms of performance: the program is much faster now and it doesn't take long to import and save the projects. Some video stabilization job was also performed. Finally, in this version you can upload soundtracks from Vimeo and other music libraries.

All in all, Windows Movie Maker isn't really useful if you are looking for advanced editing, but it's more than enough for basic projects.
