How to Install Windows 7 Installing Windows sounds complicated. In a way, it is, but there is nothing you can't do. Our easy step by step instructions will help you with that, we will walk you through it. The most important thing you should do before you start installing Windows 7 is see if your hardware is supported by Windows 7. You should have Windows 7 drivers for your hardware, if you don't - download them and save on a CD or flash drive.

User's Guide

1) Buy Windows

Bootable Windows 7 DVDs are available in most computer stores, all you have to do is ask a salesperson if they have one for sale.

2) Boot from DVD

Get Windows 7 DVD into your computer. DVD will start to boot and you will have to wait a little. The next thing you will see is a window where you have to choose language, currency format, time and etc. This step is rather easy. When the next window appears you will be able to choose if you want to install or repair Windows 7. Pick "install now" option. Tick the "I accept terms" box. Press next to proceed to the following step.

3) Choose to upgrade Windows

In the next window choose Upgrade option or Custom option. If you are willing to reinstall Windows 7, choose Upgrade. If you are installing it from the scratch - Custom. Pick the place where you want to install your brand new Operating System. If you got only one drive and want to have 2 partitions, select "Drive options" before you press Next.

4) Installation

When installation begins, your computer may restart a few times. Every time it starts, it will try to boot from the disc, do not press anything. Once the process is over, you can pick a username (the Administrator account) and name your PC. Make up a password and think of a password hint.

5) Key

Type in the key that came with your bootable disc. If you skip this step, OS will be in trial mode - it will expire in a month - in 30 days you won't be able to boot your PC or access any of your personal data.

6) Customize PC

After that you can choose your time zone, date and etc. Then your OS will finish installation and restart. After your PC restarts you will be able to use it. See if you have all the drivers you need. If you don't, right click on Multimedia Audio Controller - Update Driver Software and do as prompted.

7) Make sure everything is ok

To see if Windows 7 OS activation went well, go to Start - Control Panel - System and Security - System. Scroll to the bottom of the window that appears. If you see "Windows is activated" and your ID number, everything is ok.

  • Don't reinstall your OS if there are other ways to fix the problem you are having.

If our instructions are not quite clear, read manual that comes with your installation Windows 7 disc. Before you start re-installation, make sure you back up, and don't forget to make sure you have activation key: do not throw away anything that comes with the disc.
